Re: My broadband is not working

I'm a VIP Diamond mug!! Work that one out !! Time to find someone that can provide a robust service. Sky is like your car insurance company robbing loyal customers in favour of new ones who on paper increase market share. Sky and.other companies rely on your loyalty but give noting back!! Shop around !!

Re: Voice light staying orange

Same problem here in LL28.

Not had internet since around 10:15pm.

Have tried everything to get it working, just isn't doing anything! This is not acceptable at all.

Re: Broadband down

I'm in Belfast and ours is still down at 1:11am.  Tomorrow will be fun trying to complete college assignments without broadband if it isn't up again.

Re: DNS server issue on multiple devices

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

DNS is a directory service "out there" on the internet that takes what you type in a browser like www.sky.com and tells your pc what the IP address of that website is so it can connect to it.

when any device connects to a network, typically at home that being managed by your router, it automatically gets told what DNS server to use. Which has an IP address of its own. No name as such because what would you use to lookup the address of the thing you need to use for looking up addresses? 🙂

Normally this DNS address setting is actually also your router's local IP address within your network, but it doesn't really run a DNS server, it passes the lookups on to a real one that your ISP is running (which it got told about when it connected to the internet)

The important thing is - you can manually override this setting if it's going wrong and it's easier to do than figuring out what is actually going wrong. If you look in the network settings of any device, it's almost always possible to manually change the DNS instead of using the one automatically provided. Out there, google and others run high quality DNS services which are independent of your ISP and free and open for anyone to use. Worth trying those. Most popular two are at 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8
