You shouldn't cancel the direct debit because even if it turns out that Sky owe you money by cancelling it the only way to get the money returned to you would be be a cheque and this can take much longer to be sent out.

Unfortunately Sky's billing process continues as normal right up to the date your services cease, and ignores any notice you've given to cancel. So Sky, like most other providers, will expect payment of any bill generated during your notice period even if it covers a period after your services end. Obviously they'll refund you any overpayment from the date your services cease.

I gave the 31 days notice. That's what they say you should do.
I've said that I cancelled the dd as I couldn't afford 2 payments. This was upheld when speaking to an advisor. So, I followed their advice.
I can't reinstate the dd. This would make me overdrawn. I am owed more credit than the payment that I've missed. My question is, why do they make it soooooo difficult. Especially after 15 years loyalty, paying on time every month. Its disgraceful. I don't expect this matter to be sorted out here. I just needed to ask why they are bring so ruthless. And warn others.

It's Sky's normal process. It has nothing to do with 'loyalty'. And it's the same with most other providers.
You're right, there's nothing we customers here can do to sort it out for you, I'm afraid. You'll need to take it up with Sky.

There is something that doesn't add up here as usually if you are in a contract Sky will not let you leave so when you called them were they happy to let you cancel early and if so did you ask them about any potential charges like an early termination one ?
