double tapping - again!!

Yet again My account has been paid TWICE this month.  I paid by card on 25th September and thought the account would be made paid.  Lo and behold the monthly payment was taken on 2nd Sept (not the proscribed date of the 4th) so I have paid twice for a service I have problems with.  I have no way of talking with a human person as there is no longer a free phone service (the phone number given is a premium call service) and the wonderful AI is limited in what it can do.  it does not recognise overpayments!!!

I am seriously considering going to an alternative provider.

Anyone else have the same problem???   It always seems to happen when there is a bank holiday around the payment date.

If you look at sky help pages on the Sky.com web site, you should find a 03 number which is either changed at a normal create or if you have calling package o you phone it be included in that.

@Jee99

I think you meant you made a manual payment on 25 August not September.

Why did you make an unnecessary manual payment? You don’t need to make a manual payment unless your services have already been restricted.

Once Sky have processed the planned payment they are expecting, a credit should appear on your Sky account for the amount you have overpaid. This credit should automatically be used to pay your next months bill so on that bill date no/less money should be taken from your account. I would recommend NOT making any manual payments unless requested to by Sky.

Alternatively once your extra payment is showing as a credit, we can perhaps get you some help in getting it refunded (within the standard 3-5 WORKING days) through staff from the Community Messaging Team on here. Let us know on this thread if you want to do that but please confirm it’s currently showing as a credit.

Additionally the forum doesn't allow the display of other numbers but official numbers to Sky from the UK are 03 numbers which are usually inclusive from non Sky phones.

Sky do not have premium rate numbers, you may have found a fake number by a web search.

If you have landline phone or mobile with Sky simply dial 150.

Otherwise find a local rate 03 number by delving through the website and keep on clicking on "no it doesn't solve my issue" or "I need more help".

Moral of your story, don't make manual payements.

@Jee99 the solution is very straightforward. Don't make manual payments.

@Jee99  If it's happened before and you made a manual payment, why would you do the same again?   I'm sorry but the issue isn't with Sky it's with you making unecessary manual payments when there is no need.

To prevent this happening again simply don't make manual payments.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Re: double tapping - again!!

What a load of rude and inconsiderate people!  I should not have to justify a personal decision but I will.  I have several good reasons why I pay manually.

1)  I have a brain injury (never get thrown down a escalator it really messes with your head) and as such my memory is not the best.  I tend to forget I have bills coming out at DD and spend the money.

2)  I have a pensiuon which is paid every 4 weeks and the payment date can be as much as three weeks away when the dd is due (see the above reasoning)

3)  I am old school and find I have greater control of my money if I pay manually than by direct debit and I can be assured the payment is made on time or before time so as not to cause financial difficulties.

4) I do make payments by DD when my pension and the payment dates align.

Not every body is comfortable with the electronic world we live in and some of us find we have problems controlling out finances.

A little care thought and consideration would be advisable from you all in the future.  Just because you can cope in this world doesn't mean all of us can.

Alas, the advice is correct (making manual payments can cause issues) and no one would have known your personal circumstances...

Unfortunately, Sky do not offer 4 weekly payment options for which many pensioners are paid.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Re: double tapping - again!!

If your pension is the State Pension you can opt to have it paid weekly, that may make cashflow a little easier.

As in my other post Sky, do not have Premium Rate numbers, so do check carefully.

Trying to predict the date that Sky start to process a DD can be a bit of a lottery if Bank Holidays are involved and if you miss that cut off then they will credit any manual payment made to your account for the next monthly bill and the DD will be taken.

Sky are not deliberately double tapping, you have just fallen foul of unfortunate timing.

@Jee99

Sorry to hear of your health issues but nonetheless imo the replies aren't rude and are correct.

My post explains how you can get a refund once Sky have processed the agreed payment.

@Jee99 you signed a contract in which you agreed to pay by monthly direct debit or continuous card payments.

It's up to you if you choose, for whatever reason, to make additional, manual payments, but you can't blame Sky when things don't go to plan.

OK I understand your position however Sky insists that you have a direct debit or continuous card payment set up.

i f you continue to make manual payments depending on when you make the payment half time it going to be luck that it will be for the date start there payment proses and take payment again and you manual payment get out in your next months bill.

if you have trouble remembering what bill need paying on various dates, why not get a second bank account, and when you get you pension instead of making manual payments depending work out how much of money needs to go for paying bills like Sky and transfer that mint in the second account and don't touch it and therefore you won't have to rember the exact date Sky take there payment it will be in that account waiting for Sky to take it.

i am sure if you spoke to your bank and explained your circumstances that would be no problem you having second back account for that purpose. And it quite easy to change the bank account that Sky take your payment either you can do it on line or simple call to Sky would do it

Another way that might help when a direct debit is due, is I know as put you are old school and may not be up on modern technology but I have my bank app on my phone  and  tablet. And a service my bank do at no charge is if I go in to my account on the app, which I do eveyday  while having my morning cup of  tea so what has gone and out, it also tells me  if there is any direct debit payment going out the next day and it also tells when I pension is being paid the next day as well. So if I have forgotten that a payment is due I am told a day in advance giving me time to transfer enough funds to cover the amount due. Maybe your bank might have that facility.
