Worried about a scam
Long story short, the household Sky account is in my husband's name, we have separated and he no longer lives here. We were told to enable to change it to my name id have to set up a new account and then cancel the old one.
Having struggled to find a number I eventually got through to who I hoped was Sky.
To set up a new account, the operator told me I had to have something on it so he would put an esim on at a charge of £1 once i activated it. This is where my doubts crept in, he wanted lots of personal details that I wasn't happy to give over the phone, ie mothers maiden name, a password and then bank details. I ended the call and called my bank.
I had calls back from 'Sky' which seemed a legitimate number but it didn't feel right. So what im asking is, is this normal procedure? And how should I proceed now.

Where did you get this number? If it wasn't from Sky's own site then it's quite possibly a scam number.

The only password you should divulge is the 'telephone password' on the account. If you are ever unsure then initially give an incorrect password to see if they progress.. Account passwords should never be needed nor divulged.

Numbers are easily spoofed to look legitimate.
It's not 100% clear what information you have divulged but at a minimum I would change the account password and be vigilant of any expensive items arriving... (Being purchased on your account and being attempted to be collected)

Only the account holder (your husband) can cancel the account.

The adding of an eSIM is not normal imo. Hold fire on doing anything until your husband has cancelled the services (giving the usual notice period of 31 days for TV and 14 days for Broadband) and any loaned equipment has been returned.Note that Sky can refuse to allow a cancellation if the TV contract is still in a minimum term.

Re: Worried about a scam
I did get it from what looks like the website and didn't give any details from the existing account only new details to set up a new one.
Thankyou, for your advice. If they were easier to contact none of this would happening
