Why do sky continuously trying to take multiple payments?

I have my sky glass/streaming, broadband and family's mobiles all with sky. Every month on the same date for 14 months now I have paid manually, I have never missed a bill or been late paying it and I never agreed to a direct billing agreement.
In my sky account it shows I do not have a DD or automatic debit card payment set up (which is correct) Despite manually paying I am constantly harassed with payment attempts for all 3 services directly from my bank for weeks after I've paid them each month and then inundated with txts and emails telling me my payment has failed and to contact them to prevent them switching my services off. Every month I have to go through this rigmarole of calling them, them seeing that it's been paid and then explaining to me the attempts at taking payments and the emails etc are just automated and to ignore them.......but if I ignore them my services DO get suspended until I call and point out that it's been paid!! I've constantly denied setting up a direct payment and I pay manually without fail so how are they able to keep doing this without my say so and why is it happening every single month. I was told they still have my bank details as I had to gave it to them when I originally signed up.....that's fine  but I've never set up any automatic payments and have given no authority for sky to use them but as explained every month it's the same. I cannot have automatic payments or DD as my very basic bank account doesn't allow it so not only is sky causing issues but each time they try to take a payment my bank contacts me to remind me this service is unavailable and i get charged for setting up an unauthorised debit. How do I stop this ongoing circus aa no one listens to me and I've had enough.

@Anonymous  The T&C's are clear you must pay by Direct debit or recurring card payment, the fact you have provided card details previously Sky will use them.

If you didn't make manual payments you wouldn't have this issue, simply stop making manual payments and pay how your supposed to pay.  Problem solved.

Annoying for you, maybe you could change your bank that does direct debits @Anonymous Its a lot less hassle.

Re: Why do sky continuously trying to take multiple payments?

As I mentioned due to certain reasons I have a specific bank account that doesn't allow DD. I also don't own a debit card so it's not debit card payments they try and take.

I came to this board for advice on who/which department I should talk too as calling each services CS (sky streaming, mobile and broadband) each month is making no difference.
Your response although unhelpful is appreciated.

Re: Why do sky continuously trying to take multiple payments?

Hi, I wish I could.

For reasons I won't go into it's the only bank account I'm able to have...so it's not just sky I struggle with however sky are the only ones who continually reset up DD after I cancel them.

The fact that I pay manually has never been an issue for them (which is good) and as mentioned they are always helpful in turning my services back on as it's an automated thing that they have no control over.....one quick call and they can see it's been paid so they push the button but I can't seem to find anyone who can help understand that the DD being repeatedly set up without my permission is an issue and i don't know how to make it stop 🤦🏼‍♀️

It may just be the way it is as long as im with them and it is only a minor inconvenience but i just wondered if there was a specific department i could talk too?

thanks for your response, I appreciate it.

The billing team would be the people to speak to but I would do it with low expectations as they might say there is nothing they can do for you.

Re: Why do sky continuously trying to take multiple payments?

Thankyou.

As I said to someone else it is a minor inconvenience so it's not the end of the world but I wondered if there was someone specific or a certain team I could talk too that I didn't know about.

Thankyou for your response ☺️

I have this same problem. You have to tell your bank that you DO NOT give sky permission for recurring payments. The bank will stop sly from doing this. Then ring up sky and tell them that they do not have permission to take recurring payments if theres no subscription or DD set up. It should stop after that because you went and told the bank first. Me and my mom had to ring our banks up because every payment failed is a £7-£12 processing charge from sky

Surely the obvious solution is to not sign up to a service (for anything) that requires an ongoing DD mandate for payment?

Re: Why do sky continuously trying to take multiple payments?

Yeah but not every company do this. It either DD or a subscription but with sky when u pay manually they think they can store those bank details and take whatever they want. It doesn't work like that. If i said no to DD and Sub and said "im paying manually" that does not give Sky permission to store your details and put in request every month. Thats wrong...........i pay manually for a reason

@Shaleana
The T's and C's you've presumably read but nevertheless agreed to state you should have a direct debit or continuous card payment method set up.

@Shaleana if you didn't want to comply with Sky's terms and conditions, why did you sign up? Eventually you'll be compelled to set up a monthly payment.

And you've already agreed that they can keep and use any payment details you've given them

Re: Why do sky continuously trying to take multiple payments?

As of January 2026 i have been paying manually and they cant take automatic payments because my bank has blocked them from doing that. They are happy for me to make manual payments. When i had recurring payments they kept taking double payments which left me short every month. So ive done this with sky to stop the problems and confusion

I am sorry but states in the terms and conditions it a condition of having Sky account that continues payment is set up on the account, ie a direct debt mandate or contusions card payment . Sky will not accept you paying manually every month. If you do attempt to make manual payment that won't necessarily go to that months bill but go on as credit on a future bill. As you have also found out therefore Sky will still attempt to take the direct debit or contusions card payment and if that fail Sky will restrict you your service until payment is made irrespective of the fact you have tried to make a manual payment earlier.you can complain about this till come home and you say you have never agreed to haveing a continuous payment but when you signed up to Sky you did agree to there terms and conditions, and having continuous payment is one of them. So as you must have given Sky your bank details under the terms and conditions you agreed to Sky have a right to take payment from them. You can try and talk to Sky explaining your circumstances but they may deside if you can't pay by continuous payment the only alternative is to close your account and remove your service and go to a provider that dose allow manual payments.
