Unless things have changed then you simply can't have Whole Home without the additional puck. The first one is free (although the setup fee just happens to be the same cost as an additional puck, go figure 😉 ).

If using the Xbox or PS5 and the Sky Go app then again, you need Whole Home, although a laptop or PC would work. Sky Go on any platform is a big, big downgrade on the puck though. SD or HD only, clunky interface, no downloads, no remote control with access to the red button for sports etc.

You don't have to use the puck obviously if you'd rather use the consoles, but if you want a premium service then you have to pay for it (and in this case, a puck).

Re: Whole home package

@Downcast the beauty/ intent of Sky's products (if only from the shareholders point of view)  is to tie customers into their ecosystem and generate extra income from add on subscriptions, equipment etc.

While I had  good experiences with both Q and Stream, I couldn't justify the price being charged for watching Sky on 1 TV, nevermind wanting to watch Sky in other rooms. So I left Sky for Now TV (owned by Sky) which is cheaper and more flexible as it is a streaming service not tied to Sky's hardware.

Best of luck.

I wonder if something has changed on the Sky side. We have seen multiple posts on the forum of people adding Whole Home, but not realising they had to order additional Sky Stream pucks along with it, so paying for a service they aren't getting value from. I suspect this change of forcing a Stream puck to be ordered when Whole Home is added may be a result of that.

As per the T&Cs on the website, the first additional puck should have the setup fee waived, and the T&Cs are worded in a way that additional hardware is required when adding in Whole Home.

The T&Cs are as follows from the website:

Whole Home: £15pm extra on a 31-day rolling subscription, to watch Sky TV on multiple compatible devices, with compatible HDMI port, in your home. Requires an additional Sky Glass TV or a Sky Stream puck (Set-up £0 first additional puck, £39.95 extra per puck thereafter) and broadband, min speed 30Mb/s. Additional 5Mb/s required for each Sky Stream puck added. You can also watch on other compatible devices via Sky Go. Sky Go Extra included in Whole Home subscription.

However if you only want to view it on a games console, i'd suggest contacting Sky and asking for Sky Go Extra to be added, as that is only £5/month.

@MarkGoldsmith You can't have Sky Go Extra if you have Glass or Stream, or at least you can't now.

Edit: standalone that is. It's only available by the looks for the satellite platform.

Interestingly, the T&Cs currently on Sky's website don't state that you can't have Sky Go Extra without Whole Home. The way it is worded implies you can get it for £5 per month if you don't have Whole Home and are a Sky TV custmer.

Sky Go Extra: Sky TV customers only. £5pm extra or no extra cost to Whole Home customers. Allow up to 24 hours for your account to be activated. Concurrent online viewing on 4 devices. Download selected Sky Go content in the UK only via WiFi – max 2 per each content item. Available on registered compatible devices (content may vary and depends on your Sky TV package). Content deleted from device 48 hours after viewing starts or no later than 30 days after download.

However that does contradict what is stated here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/what-is-sky-go-extra.

Which actually makes you wonder which is 100% correct and that Sky should probably reword the T&Cs to make it clearer, i mean the T&Cs are the legally binding part as opposed to what is written on a help document on the webite.

@MarkGoldsmith Yes, I saw that, I think it's one of the many, many contradictory, legacy pages on Skys website.
