We can't say for sure but remember that any number can be spoofed. I presume you answered it as you refer to it being Sky. Hopefully you didn't divulge any information.

Try entering the number in the whocalledme website to see if it's been reported as a scam.
Depending on what the call was about it may or may not be genuine; if it was offering a discount then it'll most likely be scammers.

Thank you for your reply - I said I was not interested and put the phone down.  The number was not recognised on Who Calls website.

They hound me every week. They are not Sky but the tell you they are Sky Net. If they ring again ask them to provide you your account number after all they rang you and if they were indeed Sky they would know it themselves.

It doesn't work like that. A genuine Sky agent wouldn't divulge a telephone password. They won't know whether the person answering the phone is the account holder.

With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll likely be a scam call.

I said account number not password.

Re: Suspected scam telephone call

Good advice on the password. These people call and make it sound they are from Sky but if you listen closely they actually say they are from Sky "NET" which in fairness probably isn't counted as illegal in term of impersonating Sky.

They are total scanners though and one even told me that he would make my telephone number public so I get bombarded by nuisance calls ..... and he took great pride in telling me!

I missed that ~ but a genuine agent wouldn't state that either.

Re: Suspected scam telephone call

They would if you asked them for it and if they ring you. Sky hold me to ask them when they call.

I rang Sky to make them aware.
