Subscription changed without notice.

My last payment was about double what I used to pay, so I checked my account to see that my subscription had ran out and I had been moved to a much higher rate.

I was never informed of this as I should have been, otherwise I would have done something about it.

There was no email sent to me as the last one I received was back in February saying that there was an increase by a few pounds on the sky packages for customers, but I have received no correspondence to alert me about my contract expiring or has expired. I know I'm receiving emails from Sky and there was nothing in my spam mail.

I'd like to get some money back from this due to this being an obligation by Sky by Ofcom to inform its customers of their subscription ending. As I would have changed this had I been informed.

Has this happened to anyone else? And what was the outcome?

Depending on what it is us customers are not always informed as it is up to use to keep an eye on things like this as it should say on the bill itself when the discount is running out so you are now paying the standard price for your package. You will have been informed when you first starting paying this price how long the discount was for because there will always be an end date on it.

Plenty as we see many posts along these lines every week so now is the time to see if Sky will offer you a future discount and if they do it will come with a new 24 month contract so if you do agree something with them then make a note of the end date so you do not get caught out again.

IMHO Not a chance.  As already explained the period of discounts (18/24 months) were highlighted at the start of the term - as much notice as possible...  Always keep an eye on future bills too...  (The increase would have been shown on your account for months in advance)

As you're 'out of contract' (poor terminology) then you can either give notice to cancel or negotiate a new term.  You can perhaps use the period you've been paying list price as an argument for a better discount.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

I agree. Regardless of any obligation on Sky's part to remind you (it's been a matter of dispute between Sky and OFCOM for years), it's incumbent on you to manage your own financial affairs, rather than rely on a provider's reminder.

Re: Subscription changed without notice.

Thanks for the responses.

I guess I would argue that I get emails from Sky all the time, but the one I don't get is the one informing me of my contract ending, so if they keep quiet and I didn't notice, then they're making a lot more money, which is probably the real reason for not doing it, hoping that the customer doesn't notice.

Lets see what happens. Let battle commence!

That was a while ago...

The case is apparently subject to yet another appeal.
