Sky Q Early Termination

Hi all

I hope someone can please help me here, as it seems Sky are at it again! So I have received my mail regarding price rises and been notifed that I can end my contract early without fees due to this within 30 days, great. I have called Sky today to ask to terminate my contract in line with this (its a Nov 26 end) and look to move to Sky Stream on 30 day rolling contract, and here the "fun" begins! I am advised I can only move to Stream on a 24 month contract if I do this, I have asked why to be told thats the only option because I am in contract, I ask then if I wait until November then I can end my contract and go to 30 day one, confused as I am! If. exercise my legal right to end this contract now (with Sky Q) how is different to it ending November as per terms? Or are Sky at it again with their tricks........ironically the web chat 3 days ago which I have says I can (and I have kept it).

Can anyone advise if they have had the same situatioh with Sky? I have been 26 years with them but right now I am about 5 mins from terminating the contract for good! Also, I was advised I am not a new customer even if I terminated the contract and try and rejoin - honestly it's driving me mad (oh and only have less than 30 days to decide or tough you are stuck with us!)

Any advice would be greatfully received 🙂

Si

That bit is correct.

Having to take a 24 months contract with Sky Stream seems....odd.

Hi @Si_R   Moving to Stream would probably cost more for the same Q package. This is simply because it would cost Sky money for new equipment etc., whereas to leave you on Q costs them nothing. You can get a quote for Stream at https://www.sky.com

@Si_R the option to cancel Sky Q during the contract is part of a requirement that Ofcom have imposed when Sky increase prices during the contract period enabling customers to switch to a different pay TV supplier within 4 weeks from the notification of the price invcrease. This follows a lengthy legal dispute which Sky lost on appeal so Sky appear to be doing the absolute minimum required..i suspect Sky would say the switch from Q to monthly Stream is not included.

As it happens that protection does not curently apply to Sky Stream services so those of us buying that service do not have the option to cancel.
