Security screening process - PASSWORD

All,

i was on the phoen to sky for a new order and i was surprised by the secuirty screening process which asked for my Password. The questions asked are enough for any scammer to access my account. This is very strange as i would never want to give my password . date of bith, mothers maiden name ovee the phone.it was sky as my order was confimred but i was also asked to take payment over the phone for a set-up fee and this was also not very secure as i entered over the key pad rather than a a seprate link as many compnaies do. i was expecting a lot more form Sky and this leaves lots open to scammers.

The password they are asking for (assuming you weren't called by scammers) is your TELEPHONE password, not your account password.

DTMF entry of payment details is common and 'secure' as the agent cannot note the numbers.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

I was asked the same - account password & mother's maiden name - when I had a call claiming to be from Sky. I mentioned they should ask for the telephone password & not the account details but they stated that was for telephone problems only. Seems my complaint about it didn't change anything.

Virginia.

I presume you did not give the account password and hanged up as it was probably a scam call.

@DaveDrizen I didn't give the password & disconnected immediately when they pressed me for the information as I suspected as scam but as they knew we'd cancelled our TV contract I originally believed it was a genuine call.
I have 2fa on the account anyway.
