Scam calls

I've received a call today from Sky, saying that you are applying a discount to my bills and that it will reduce and will be for the length of my contract.  I did gives some details over but then got a little supicious about this when they offered me an IPAD gift.  I have  not given any bank details over to them. I have also received emails that look legitimate but I'm still not sure.  The caller even game me a contact number and his name to call back.

I ended the call with a call back after 5pm.

Are you able to advise.

You haven’t contacted Sky by posting here. This is a customer ▶️ customer discussion forum where we try to help other customers.

Sky are not giving away freebie iPads.

The scammers try to obtain sufficient information to be able to order expensive mobile devices under your name which Sky innocently deliver to you.

The scammers would then recontact you (again claiming to be Sky) saying they have made a mistake and for you to send it to a (non Sky) address. If you did that they then have the device and you have the bill.

They are very cunning. They may send packaging to post the item (to them) or might even send a 'courier' to collect it.

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll likely be a scam call.

No, you didn't... It was scammers pretending to be Sky.

...they don't need them.  They have compromised your Sky account and will use the billing information there to order expensive items that you will pay for.  (As the scam will involve you sending the items to them if you fall for it)

Read this: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY.  Then contact Sky and cancel any orders placed.

Re: Scam calls

If you agreed it the dicount will be applied to your bills  almost straight away ( I know this because when I made ajustment to my package last week looking at my bills only a hour after speaking Sky,  my bill had been already  been altered  to take account of the changes including adding a credit for the service I was cancling) therefore  have look at your bill via "my Sky"  app either on your phone or Sky box, and see if your present and future bill have been adjusted to take account of these discounts.  If not you could assume it was scam.

Sky wouldn't last long dishing out free iPads willy-nilly.

You should not have give them your bank details as Sky already. Know them , if they did ask for them  I would end the call straight away as it would take it as scam and who I was speaking to was not Sky.
