Scam call?

Hi,

I've had a call [removed] from somebody stating that they were from Sky and they knew details about my account. The caller was talking about Sky cabling being replaced but some details didnt ring true so I hung up before giving any financials. Is there any confirmation about the legitimacy of this number?

Regardless if it was 'Sky' number they can easily be spoofed.

I would change your account password ASAP.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Re: Scam call?

@PW26 In this age of ever more sophisticated scams it's good practice to just say you'll ring them back because you're busy.

If I get calls I do this and then ring Sky to check to see if it was genuine. I have to say though a lot of scam calls are filtered out by my Google Pixel and it has a handy screen call feature too. It's very rare I speak to scammers directly the past year since getting the Pixel.

Legitimate call or scam?

I've had a call from a Preston number saying it's Sky and call is about reviewing contract and 40% discount. Is this a real Sky call or a scam?  I can't type the number in this message as it's not being allowed. Many thanks for help with this.

Scam as the callers want your account details so they can order mobiles/tablets from it while you pay for them, so if you gave them no information that they asked for then you will have no issues. If you did then change your online password and perhaps setup two step authentication on it.

@Denise965

Stands every chance as this is a regular ploy. Block the number for what it's worth.

They try to obtain sufficient details so that they can order an expensive mobile phone under your details which subsequently gets sent to your address. The scammers then recontact you saying they've made a mistake and to send it to a (non Sky) address. They then have the device and you have the bill.

With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

100% scam. Usually the discount is 40% & there's also a free gift, once account details are given they order expensive devices, once these have arrived they'll call again to say the incorrect gift has been sent & to return the phones/tablets to a specific address (which they give) or that they'll send a courier to collect it. These devices will not be returned to Sky & the customer may be liable for the cost.
