SCAM call re VIP

I got a call this morning from an 0800 number. Guy claimed to be from SKY and had news about my Sky VIP upgrade. He needed my Sky ID and Account details to be able to share the info with me. Oh yeah.  Its a SCAM. He tried to persuade me that Sky were personally calling ALL VIP members to tell them about the "upgrade".

2 things to note:

1. He sounded very believeable and some people would no doubt be taking in by his charm and "knowledge".  Reality is that the time it would take and the cost of calling all VIP members directly, there is no way SKY would do this.

,2 How did he know I had a SKY account let alone a SKY VIP account?   My thinking is that someone from Talk Talk is selling innfo on custmers who are leaving/have left them.  (I've got several reasons for not trusting them). Alternatively, someone from SKY is selling cuustomer information. I seriously hope that's not the case.

BEWARE   Don't give your credentials to ANYONE that calls you. Its is almost ALWAYS a SCAM. [Removed]

@BerkoPaul all customers, with the exception of those who have just joined Sky are VIPs, therefore it's a pretty safe bet that whoever they call has a VIP account.

You're right, you do have to be careful with any unsolicited call, from Sky or anybody else,  and not give any personal information unless you're completely happy that the call is genuine.

@BerkoPaul next week it'll be BT "calling", the week after Virgin. They don't have to be sold the information as they play the percentages.

Re: SCAM call re VIP

Fair point. But I've not had a call like this before. I've only just joined Sky so the timing seemed too much to be coincidental

@BerkoPaul it used to be  you joined the VIP program after 12 months but thst seems to have changed see https://www.sky.com/help/sky-vip/sky-vip-faqs/articles/what-do-you-need-help-with-sky-vip

You can check your VIP status and what you get yourself in the My Sky app or website. Given there are over 10 million Sky VIPs it is hardly exclusive there are a few offers.

Does your Sky account refer to you as a VIP? Not that that means much to be honest.

To be honest being a VIP customer in reality dose not mean very much. Most of there vip offer are ballots which you have as much chance of winning as you have winning the lottery in my opinion. Many other offers in reality are are offers for other companies to get new customers for there products and if you are already a customer or subscriber and try to use the offer you get the message that not available to you. A good example is the year free Paramount plus offer,  now it not made very clear that the only insolvent with Sky in this offer is they offer you this and give you a access code. The actual deal is paramount direct and as I said is only available to new paramount customers as when I put in email login as exsisting customer it was rejected. Not to worry I just used a different email address to get round this problem and canceled my other subscription. Also when  signing up to this free offer and putting in your access code you also have put in payment details so this subscription can continue when the free period runs out and when then when it dose they just start billing without any notice. If you want to to cancel before the end of your free period so you don't get charged and you cancel still in you your free period contrary to what Sky tell you, your subscription ends immediately and you lose any remaining free period. A warning that is given onscreen when you first sign up. I have know at least one person that cancelled mor less immediately after starting ther free period went to view somthing and found her subscription already been cancelled and if wanted to resubscribe it was at the full price . This not the only vip offer Thais like this only for new customers I have done other vip offers and the same has happened not excepted if you already if you are existing customers or subsciber.

The free offer cancellations can be hit and miss whether it cancels down straight away or not, I cancelled my Sky Sports free 2 month trial on the first day of the 2nd month and it's still running, and yes, future bills show it as being scheduled for cancellation.
