Removing bank details
I'm no longer with Sky after leaving them a few months ago.
I'd like to to ensure that Sky no longer have my bank account details. From what I have read, this isn't possible. I can only ammend them.
I don't want to ammend them though. I want to remove them as I'm no longer with Sky and I do not consent for a company I'm no longer with to keep and have access to my bank. No, I don't owe any money.
How can I remove my banking details?

Re: Removing bank details
I think you will have to call Sky to see if they can do this for you as I'm not sure it is possible to do this online which I presume you have tried to do here:

If someone has helped you then please click on the LIKES button in their post.
If you need help please provide as much information as you can

Re: Removing bank details
Yes I did try there, thanks.
I've googled this and it seems it can't be removed. I'm gobsmacked really. I'll try calling Sky.
Thanks for the reply 🙂

Re: Removing bank details
Read the PN: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/privacy-hub-privacy
They may keep that information for 7 years.

Re: Removing bank details
DIrect debit or card? If it's a direct debit, just cancel it with your bank. If it's a card payment, you can't do that, to my knowledge.

Re: Removing bank details
Thanks. I'm still reading through that.
I've found a section in the text that says "Please read the 'Keeping your data up to date and your rights' section above to understand how to get in touch to discuss a right to erasure request."
However, I can't find that section. Doing a search through the long text there produces no results that I can find. It's also not a link, so I can't click on it. I'll keep looking though, will try googling the phrase next.
As far as I'm aware, I should be able to request the removal of my details, as keeping the data for seven years after a customer has left is not at all reasonable.
It was on a card, which 'for reasons' can't be removed, although it seems if it was direct debit then I could just cancel it. Would they knock down my door if I did that, and insiste I provide them with new details? No, as there's no legal need for me to provide anything now I am no longer a customer and I have a right to ask for my data to be removed.

Not necessarily. The right of erasure is not absolute.
If they have a legitimate purpose to retain the data then you cannot force it to be deleted. (I had a quick scan through the PN and there may be reasons to retain it for longer than you'd like)

Re: Removing bank details
Not to go around in circles, but I feel that seven years retention of my financial details up to seven years after I have left the company / service is not a legitimate use of my data, particularly when buried in such a badly worded tome of terms and conditions. I should point out though that I've yet to actually read in that document that they keep that specific financial information for that length of time. It actually seems to be for some indeterminate length of time and mainly relates to existing customers, rather than for those who have left.
There's lots of data in that long text that I agreed to, such as analysing my viewing, seeing what adverts I watch or what my IP is up to, but I do not think this should extend to financial details, if the account is up to date.
Thank you for your response tho 🙂 I think I'm just having one of those days today....
