In assisting someone with ordering Sky TV and broadband, I contacted Sky who quoted maximum price for both, when I advised it was much cheaper online, I was told to order online!! I was also told I could use the recommend a friend code. I sent the code to my friend who went ahead with the online order but the code didn't work after trying a few times. Is there anyway of claiming this after the order has been placed as it seems unfair for a code obtained from my account online, not to work.

I don't think there is as the link as to be used so it can be tracked back to you so as it wasn't used then it can't be tracked back to you.
