Price reduction is this a scam ?

I had a phone call earlier claiming to be from Sky The person said Sky are getting so many complaints about there prices that they are reducing the cost to existing customers. I was told that my monthly fee would drop by £30 a month as a loyal customer. Now i believe this is a scam has anyone else had such a phone call ? They did send me a convincing Email confirming this reduction. Then they said i was also entitled to a free Ipad i said not for me thanks i already had a Tablet but thanks for the offer and hung up. The phone has been red hot all afternoon from them trying to contact me again    What do you think guys a Scam or genuine ?

@Westonred62 100% a scam, no business is going to call you and offer you a big discount and free tech worth several hundred pounds.

This is a classic scam as you will be sent nothing but they will ask you for your account details from which they would then order a phone or tablet from it, meaning you would be paying for it. They would send a courier to pick it up from you.

Did you give them any account details ?

Sky wouldn't send bespoke details of an offer. I'm pretty certain Sky advisers don't have the ability to generate custom emails.

They are designed to be so that people do think they are from Sky but usually if you looked at them closely there will be mistakes, like if it was from Sky it would address you by your actual name and the chances are this one doesn't.

As I've said in similar threads, the cheapest iPad costs more wholesale than the likely profit margin on a minimum contract term even before a (bogus) substantial discount, so it's somewhat unrealistic as a promotional gift.

Fake emails are generated using graphical elements from real ones, so it's not really a surprise that they can look convincing.

I love these guys that call me.  The ones that say 'we're your internet provider' (big clue) and then ask me whether I'm happy with my service and if I have any problems.

"Yes!", I say, "I keep getting these scammers calling me..."   <click> 🤣

If they ask for your bank account details just hang up do not give it them as defamatory a scam Sky would never ask you for that they already know that information

Re: Price reduction is this a scam ?

No i didnt give them any details i gathered it was a scam but for a couple of seconds i thought there might have been some truth in it as i had a genuine Email from Sky the same day saying that HBO, Disney+ and another streaming channel was going to be free from March

Re: Price reduction is this a scam ?

I had same call yesterday, was from India, claiming loyal customers are getting discount

It went on a while, so I said I'm  busy.

If was genuine they wouldn't be asking so many questions and wouldnt do it by phone

Would be email offers etc

Sky needs investigate and advise

The advice is to tell the caller you know they are scammers and then put the phone down: that way they are more likely to remove you from their list for further calls.

Sky itself has no jurisdiction overseas, and it's extremely difficult for any company to get such things investigated in locations where law enforcement can be financially negotiable.
