Paying for HD on channels then paying again for sky sports HD

Trying to nail down why, when Sky broadcasts in HD and UHD anyway, we should have to pay extra to receive it .

Also , if your bill is the same as ours , you will find you are paying for HD once and then again for sky sports HD .

Finally lots of little subsections are creeping in and being charged for extra.

By the Sky no longer broadcast in 3D but , according to the bill, at least for this there is no charge!

thankyou

It's a commercial decision.  If you don't pay for the sub you don't get it.

You get Sports in HD even if you don't have an HD sub.  The HD sub covers other channels, such as Atlantic.  (You are not paying twice even though it's itemised)

There still are a few 3D items lurking.  But the format is basically dead.

They are different items:

Sky Sports HD Subscription

Sky HD Subscription

Sky Sports is in HD regardless of whether you have base HD pack or not.  If you only want Sports in HD then feel free to remove the base pack.  The base pack covers non-premium channels only (and NetFlix levels).

Not sure where you're heading with that.  If Sky stopped charging for HD/UHD then the overall price would increase.  You could argue the same for Sports and Movies - they are broadcasting it...

@Mr.C

Sky  Sports channels have been in HD by default since October 2018 and the Sports subscription covers this.

The HD supplement is for other channels which have both SD and HD versions, not Sports.

It is itemised but cannot be removed.  It forms part of the total cost you agree to pay for Sports.  As such it's not 'extra'.

Re: Paying for HD on channels then paying again for sky sports HD

@PandJ2020  I have to agree wholeheartedly with @MRc.  I have SkySports and thus have to pay for HD again.

I've been a Sky subscriber for over 21yrs and am sick to the back teeth with 18 month contracts which contain alleged discount for this and alleged discount for that, and of course it's a  "commercial decision", all of which is designed to confuse and con customers into thinking they are getting a discount when, in actual fact, you are not.  Honestly, how many of Sky subscribers have just a straightforward and clear bill without all the confusing packages and all the confusing discounts? Not many I'll guess.

If you are seeing a HD charge for Sky Sports then whatever the charge is will be offset by acduscount of the same amount on the sports package itself.  So if the charge is £2 then there will be a £2 discount applied to the sports package.

As I explained above, you really don't.

If you don't find it value, then of course, leave when you can.
