Moving abroad, ending contract early

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone could help. My current contract is about to end later this year and Sky just called me offering a new deal with lots of extras. Catch is, it's another 24 month contract.

I'm moving abroad later this year and also told her this and she insisted, in that case I'd be able and allowed to end the contract early, cancel all the services completely free without any fees or penalty costs.

Reading other people's experiences, it makes me feel very nervous to risk it in case I end up with a massive bill.

Has anyone else had this before where they indeed have been able to end their contracts early when moving away? Is there any way to get this promise in written as a proof in case I end up having any issues?

The Sky staff is calling me back later today to check whether I want to go ahead with this deal.

Any help and tips would be highly appreciated, thank you! 🙂

I think you are right to be cautious as early termination charges are automatically applied if an account is closed when still within the minimum term of a contract.

They can release you from a contract without early termination fees but I would assume they won't.

Personally, continue 'out of contract' and you cancel without penalty for sure.

Logically this would suggest anyone could claim to be doing so to escape their contract.

Sky might choose to permit exit without penalty in such circumstances, but that's rather different.

Indeed, and trying to sort it after moving abroad may be 'challenging'.

@Tia88 Don't forget that even if out of contract before you go you'll still be subject to 31 days notice to cancel and you'll also have to send the Sky equipment back at the end of the contract. You may want to consider going head sooner rather than later.

Re: Moving abroad, ending contract early

Thank you everyone for all the help and taking the time to reply, much appreciated! 🙂

They called me back as promised and kept pushing saying it won't be a problem to cancel and even forwarded me to her supervisor to confirm. I have to say all this hassle and talking over me while I'm expressing my concerns, it really put me off even more.

I have to say the way she handled the call and my concerns, came across rude and very pushy, she seemed almost annoyed because I had questions.

Is there any way to feed this back to Sky as I genuinely believe some of their staff might need a bit more extra training to have more knowledge, be more patient and understanding rather than attack you?

Thank you again everyone, I'm definitely not gonna ahead with the deal and just gonna keep things as they are.
