As a long term subscriber to sky why can't I get the same monthly cost as a new subscriber will get? I've rang the call centre but am told it's still £20 a month more than a new subscribers, why is this fair and why can't I pay the same monthly rate especially when there is no extra cost to sky of installation and sky boxes and equipment?

Find out moreNew customer deals are for new customers only so when you first joined Sky you will have had a discount that was only available to you as a new customer at the time. If you are not in a contract and you don't believe that Sky is value for money then you can cancel by giving the required notice.

Because all comms firms find it harder to attract new customers than keep them...

I've no idea what deal I got when first subscribed as it was over 20 years ago, you would think that loyalty would make them want to keep me as a customer and offer the same monthly subscription? Obviously I'll just cancel and rejoin as a new customer

You can't do that. You are not considered a 'new customer' until after 18 months has passed.

I would be surprised if you didn't because it is unlikely that you signed up to Sky at full price with no discount attached.

Not at a loss.
Sky and their competitors offer a loss-leading or neutral discount to new customers in the hope that they'll stay after their minimum discounted term has expired, after which they'll aim to make the relationship profitable. If course, savvy customers will leave after the initial discount has expired, notwithstanding that switching provider is a bit of a faff.
