Jobs Worth

Not sure if this is directed to the correct people.

I took a phone call from my panicked elderly mother yesterday saying somebody has knocked on he door saying he is representing Sky and he will be back tomorrow to carry out work on her phone line.

I told her under no circumstances that she is to allow him in the house when he returns.

In the meantime i contacted Sky with her account details and my own Sky details but unfortunatley my mother could not remember her password for me to give, all i wanted to know was, have Sky got on record any work planned in her area.

Only to be told NO password NO information will be given out by a very polite but jobsworthy lady.

I explained i receive all my mothers emails from Sky as she is elderly, also years ago we asked for my name to be put on the account.

But the very polite customer service said NO password no information will be given out.

Hopefully nothing happens today......

@WH1066  Unless you have POA on the account Sky will not and cannot give out information as this would be a breach of DPA,  are you asking Sky to breach DPA for you?

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@WH1066

So she conformed to the guidelines as trained.

You need to contact Sky when next at your Mums and get her to set up a telephone password for future calls so that Sky know they are speaking with the account holder or someone on their behalf. You can then call Sky and be able to do most things over the phone ~ but not cancel any aspect of her subscription.

That initial response was correct though: only a small percentage of Sky personnel do telephone work, and it's typically to install FTTP (full fibre broadband) as the result of an order being placed by the householder.

There should be absolutely no circumstances in which there's an unannounced visit.

@Daniel0210

For sales, yes (although I wish they wouldn't)

'back tomorrow to carry out work on her phone line ', definitely not.
