In May my monthly charge increased by over 20% from £54.66 to £66.66.

As I live in Jersey, VAT is not applicable, so why has my monthly bill increased by 20%?

@Ron-T A rise of that size usually indicates a discounted period has ended.

Hi @Ron-T

Afraid you are not contacting Sky directly here as this is a customer forum.

The annual inflation-linked price rise from April 1st (based on UK CPI in December) would still apply.

Whether Sky takes notice of the curious situation regarding VAT in the Bailiwick is unclear.

I'd note that gov.je says:

The following services are not zero-rated:

  • financial services supplied directly in connection with goods for export from Jersey
  • provision of telecommunications in and out of Jersey, or between places outside Jersey (this service is standard rated)
  • services relating to a trust (which is standard rated, unless the trust is a listed international services entity)

Apparently my package had expired but they had not bothered to inform me. Sorted now, and they tell me that they do now contact on expiry, but they didn't before!

@Ron-T

At present the onus is on customers making a note of when the discounted deal ends on a TV subscription but for Broadband/Talk packages Sky should send you an email.

Your package doesnt expire but the discount you had does which is why you need to make a note of the date at the end of the contract so you do not get caught out again.
