Just happened to me today, said they were calling to reduce my TV bill. When I asked if it was genuine she said yes, then bung up!

I received a call from this number today - ending 3372. I was a bit dubious at first, so asked the guy, who sounded like he was calling from an offshore call centre "How do I know you are genuinely callling from Sky?" He said he could give me all the details of my Sky package, which he did. We then did security, name, address, postcode and password on the account. Once through that, I asked him why he was calling. He said he wanted to see if there were any offers or discounts he could give me. I was busy and didn't really want to go through all this now, so I said no thanks and he promptly hung up. This in itself got the alarm bells ringing again, so I called Sky back on a separate number, one I used many times before when dealing with Sky. I told them I was concerned that I may have just had a scam call and that I had given my account password out. They checked their logs and confirmed that a marketing call was made to my number a few minutes earlier, so I'm satidified that it was a genuine call - but I did point out that the marketing team could do with some retraining, as just hanging upon a customer is not good practice!

Why did the person call me on the number stated in this thread and tell me my sky bill is increasing by 10% ? When questioned they didn't know the sky package I've got ? So when I requested an email I was informed Sky do not send emails ? Valid number from sky my backside

That's correct, Sky don't send custom emails. As explained previously, the number is a genuine Sky number, but any phone number can be spoofed by a scammer to make it look like a genuine number. It's why caution is always needed.

Yeah had the same problem experience just now. Indian caller saying my Sky bill would be increasing, but I could take advantage of their Black Friday deals. All sounded way too dodgy, so asked how I should know they were from Sky and they hung up...

I always air on the side of caution and it sounded way to dodgy for me personally, i called sky and was informed that my bill wasn't going up 10% and No notes were on my account as being called ? Also regardless of where in the world sky call someone from the email facility is available (to confirm and changes to subscription) interesting

Thus happened to us. The supposedly sky call asked about 2 top of the range phones that I ordered. Which I hadn't ordered. Lo and behold the phones turned up so I contacted sky and arranged to send them back. When Royal Mail turned up, the return address wasn't sky. So I called fraud dept and they took the situation over.
best thing to do is hang up and call sky back on one of their other numbers. As sky said they change their phone numbers periodically. Or if you have sky mobile, call 150.

Who's fraud department did you call ?

A lot of people saying these numbers are kosher and from sky are involved in the scam, be vigilant and careful, call sky back on a dedicated number and verify who you are talking to or conversing with

I phoned sky and asked for the fraud department

Yes, that's a well-known scam. Absolutely right to call Sky on a number you've obtained yourself from the Sky website.

Just received this call from the same number claiming to be from Sky [13th November 2024]. It all seemed quite plausible until they asked me to confirm my password - my recollection is that most on-line service providers ask you to confirm individual letters of the password instead of asking for the full password. Asking for a password always seems like a red flag.

Yes and no.
Sky do ask for your TELEPHONE password (a memorable word) for authorisation. (This is not your online account password)
But any request for your online account password is a red flag indeed.
