Huge increase in pricing

I have been with SKY for decades, always having basic package. After moving house, I renewed with Sky for £16pm for 18 months; my contract has now expired and the same has jumped to £49.50. I'm devastated. We're both on state pensions (yes that old boring excuse..... but true) and I'm used to the remote etc. I'd cancel but would then lose all my recordings and I now don't have an aerial for "ordinary" TV!  I've tried asking, but can't get past the Bot to chat with someone. SKY help please 🙏🏽

@Cassiesky

If you’re no longer in a discounted minimum term, or its ending soon the best new discounts are normally acquired by calling Sky and negotiating or potentially amending your package which will now require a 24 month minimum term contract. Sky are not obliged to offer you another discount, and recent posts on here indicate that significant discounts are now harder to come by. If you’re offered something acceptable be prepared to agree to it there and then because if you decide to think about it the offer may no longer be available when you call back.

Calls to Sky will initially be automated which may try to send you here to the forum, offer you online help or offer to send you a text. Stay on the line as long as possible and saying nothing when asked the reason for the call sometimes helps being put in the queue for an agent.

@Cassiesky  To negoatiate a new deal you will need to persist in calling, the community can't help with deals.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Re: Huge increase in pricing

@Cassiesky You have to ring Sky and when asked the reason for the call say you are thinking of leaving Sky or select the option to leave Sky. You'll go through to the retentions team who may be able to offer you a lower price. It won't be as low as £16 per month though. You will have to sign up for 24 months I believe and you may have to decide there and then whether to accept or not. It still wouldn't protect you from the annual price rise Sky issue.

If you've been with Sky for decades then you must be aware of the need to renegotiate at the end of each minimum term?  It's nothing new...

One option is 'Essentials'.  If you do not watch Sky channels (such as Atlantic) then the essentials package allows you to keep the box and watch/record free-to-view channels for a relatively low cost.  (Retails at £15pm, possibly cheaper if you agreed a deal)

When calling, don't say anything, and persevere!
