Downhearted

Hi , I must say i am feeling downhearted with Sky presently ,

I had 2 Engineers visit me today as my sky viewing card was not working ,

Whilst here they said there was a new package of Sky Cinema , Free for 2 Months then £5 thereafter for which i agreed, They also said Make sure you are no longer paying for  the Sky Discovery App as it is now free ,

I had Multiscreen installed at £7.50 per Month for 18 Months  after which time it will Double in Price , Inclusive in this offer was UHD ,

  • However on speaking with a Sky support agent just now , I have been told My sky Q box is not equipped with UHD , Despite the Engineers recognising this and stating i need to call sky as i needva new Sky Q box box ,
  • I have had no Sky for a good 5 weeks so only today has all this come to light , I was told prior if i joined up with a certain  package i would receive Netflix free back in May last year , The lady said they Could update my box at a Charge of £50 !! And then pay £4 per Month for the UHD , Despite my joining up paying for Multiroom Which was inclusive of UHD , And my Netflix has been being Charged at £5 per Month , Despite in May last year being told it would be free with my package ,
  • The Engineers said Call Sky and ask them to provide you with a Sky Q box which has UHD , However i am now being told not only do they want £50 for Sky to Upgrade my box which clearly wasn't the correct box , And another £4 per Month for UHD which was initially only 2 Months ago included in my Multiroom , So i am effectively paying for HD , UHD, Multiroom which was suppose to be inclusive of the UHD, !! I then went on to mention is it true that people who are on  Sickness benefits can get a reduced price for which i was told my WiFi speeds would be significantly reduced , and in total i would pay £4 Less for both !! My plan presently , ie no Movies , No Sport , Only Documentaries and Normal Ariel Channels  is with my WiFi £64.39 per Month , And in April will in increase to £76 per Month, I had to constantly ask what i was paying a Month and my reply constantly being  "Would you like me to cancel your Netflix" !
  • I am completely Disheartned, And cannot get my head around of this ,I signed a contract for Multiroom and Sky UHD 2 Months ago and have now been told because i wasn't supplied with the adequate Sky Q box i would be expected to pay £50 for an update on the box which was provided for me and £4 extra a Month for the UHD which i had already taken out with my Multiroom , I am  Feeling extremely Disheartened, Deceived  and Completely Unfairly treated , in so many ways .

@debbiesharron

Various things to unpack there, but ultimately you'll have to sort them out with Sky: we can only give pointers.

For example: Multiscreen unlocking UHD is only true on the old Entertainment bundle.  With Signature as the baseline subscription, both HD and UHD are standalone supplements.

The non-UHD main Q box is the original 1 TB model: it's entirely possible for a subscriber to have ordered this prior to November 2019 (along with Multiscreen or not) just to save the up-front cost compared to the 2TB model.  Having a bundle which qualified for UHD back then didn't mean a UHD box was supplied.

The 'social tariff' for Sky Broadband is described here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-social-tariff  and the qualifying benefits are

  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Pension Credit (PC)
  • Income-based Employment Support Allowance (I-ESA)
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (I-JSA)
  • Income Support (IS)

@TimmyBGood

Hi I have a Sky 2TB box ,

And the benefits side of it appears to only cover WiFi ie receiving a much reduced WiFi signal and has no bearing on the tv  packaging

There are at least three versions of Q 2TB, all of which can do UHD: the v1 2016 release model is capable of UHD but not HDR.

That's correct: social tariffs are for broadband/phone and not television, because unlike internet access, subscription TV is not deemed 'essential'.

Why not do what others do and phone up and see if Sky will give you a discount across both the TV and Broadband. If they do then it will most likely come with a 18 month contract and there will be a price rise coming on 1st April which will see whatever you are payng go up if if you agree a new discount with Sky as it is based on the list price before the discount.

Re: Downhearted

Hi , It appears i was given the 2016 box 2 Months ago and am expected to pay £50 to upgrade it , Which if i am certain it will then give me the benefits instead of replacing the box , It appears i have no Choice ,

I did speak with a Lady ie different tv , WiFi package etc but just felt completely unheard and exasperated

Are you sure it's not UHD capable, as @TimmyBGood posted? My early 2TB Sky Q Silver box certainly was.

Re: Downhearted

Mark39,

Apparently yes it is a 2tb ,

But is an old model and doesn't have the HDR system or something on it,

And i have to pay to get that put on it despite only receiving the box 2 Months ago 🙃

Ah, OK.

UHD and HDR are not the same thing. My early 2TB box was capable of receiving UHD, but could not decode HDR. I guess you have the same model.

Re: Downhearted

Yes it appears you had that box too,

When the Engineers came they said your TV is showing UHD but the Skybox isn't, They tried to change the settings etc,

Then said Give Sky a Call and ask them for a more updated box ,

However on ringing sky I was told they could upgrade the box I have for £50 ! Despite only receiving the box 2 Months ago and as I'm not too tech minded I'm genuinely not certain that this upgrade will deem the box in which I have to allow me the best box ie the guy I spike to after said better enhanced colour settings and said it would be the equivalent of a new and updated box , But I'm just not so sure
