Cancelling Broadband but keeping everything else
Hi,
I've been a Sky customer for 15+ years.
I'm looking to leave my Sky Broadband package mid contract, but keep everything else (we're paying them £90 p/month).
Has anyone got any experience of them treating you with good faith and not charging an exit fee if you're only cancelling the Broadband element of your package?
I've finally come to realise that their BB speeds (not fibre) are criminally slow/expensive.
Thanks for reading!

I'd say it's highly unlikely you'll be able to leave without paying an early termination charge, if you're 'in contract'. It's not really anything to do with good faith, but simply that you have a discounted deal on the strength of you keeping the product for the full term.
Note that if you're moving to another provider using the Openreach network, the speed to your router will be more or less the same as you're currently getting with Sky.

I agree with @Mark39

If successful return packaging for any equipment Sky expect back will be sent out to you near the end of the notice period. Remember to keep any proof of posting indefinitely.

Sky utilise OpenReach infrastructure - do you have another provider in the vicinity? (Such as VirginMedia)
If you don't then Sky should be able to provide the same speed as anyone else?

Re: Cancelling Broadband but keeping everything else
Thanks. Appreciated.
We haven't got Sky fibre options but we have Virgin and Brsk options at our address.
We're also quite a distance from our local landline hub so have a slow connection as it is.
It looks like we could be getting 15x faster internet for £96 less per year.

No-brainer then, apart from the possible early termination charge. As a guide, the charge will equate to roughly what you would pay over the remaining months of your contract.

Re: Cancelling Broadband but keeping everything else
Hi, thanks.
That was my next thought. Just take the charge on the chin if it means faster significantly faster BB..... but I would hope that the charge would be more like £40 max total, and I wouldn't be happy with that to be honest. Paying out the contract would be £250. That would feel like robbery, on top of the BB robbery that we signed up for 😂

I get it, but you signed up and agreed to pay for the minimum term - which is why they won't be keen to release you without paying that guaranteed amount. But if OpenReach aren't coming there anytime soon then you have to decide...
