Had a call from someone claiming to be sky, the forum won't let me post the number but it starts with 01243 and then ends with 416.
they keep calling me saying they want to send me an email to prove it's from sky, but the email address they have is wrong, and I've never used a different address. I get probably 20 emails a week from sky so it seems odd that this guy calling me wouldn't have the correct address, am I right to not interact with them?

The partial number you've provided isn't a number used by Sky, it's likely to be a scam call so best not to entertain it, simply block the number if you can.
Sky certainly wouldn't persist calling you like this and this caller does seem to be desperate by repeatedly calling.

Re: Call from sky
Sky use a 0800 number to call out.

Re: Call from sky
Hi @Yannahan The telephone number is irrelevant, criminal scammers can spoof any number to try and trick victims that it is a genuine call.

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

Re: Call from sky
I also recieved a call from sky of this number [removed], first time I passed to my daughter and the cut off before we or the person called. Then they rang again this evening and I tried to answer and again it got cut off after I said hello? Firstly I am a sky customer and why on earth are they contacting a Deaf customer via phone? They know I am Deaf due to accessible needs and secondly, so rude! Cutting the call before we had a chance to say anything or even a hello! Very rude indeed. Very frustrating too 😕

Of course any number can be spoofed.
