CONSTANT PRICE INCREASES

I have just renewed my Sky Broadband package and chatted with a really good advisor called Ismail. I am now in a new 2 year contract that I am pleased to say is a fair price. I'm a big ambassador for the Sky Broadband based on a number of trouble free years. A fair few of my family and friends also use Sky for their broadband plus their phone calls AND TV.

I don't know of any other broadband provider that can be relied on as well as Sky. I'm not going to shame the bad ones because, if you're reading this, you are already in agreement with me.

My issue is this constant need to keep putting the price up by so much. My increase was a suggested £8.  When I attempt to speak to someone at Sky to justify this, all of a sudden no one is available. They've just introduced a punishment willy nilly admin fee of £10 for being nice to you and giving you a good new monthly rate.

When is this constant barage of price increases going to stop being so steep. It's like they're in cahoots with an energy company. We are charged 55% more for energy in this country than anywhere else in the world...apparently.

I've always considered Sky to be a premium product, so I am happy to pay more but there has to be some kind of give back for loyalty.

I would love to be able to speak to someone from Sky who can honestly justify the steepness of their price increases and the fact that they 'seem' to be doing it two maybe 3 times a year.

Aren't we being shafted enough?

One of the worst things for me is the fact that new customers get offered better deals than existing ones.

I know it sounds like a moan...it's because Sky have always looked after and my family...eventually but I would love to get a renewal notification that I can look at and think "OK! I'll accept that"

We just have to keep fighting!

I don't want to go anywhere else!

You have my loyalty!

Be nice to me please!

You do not need to be so greedy!

Bye for now.

Prices shouldn't only increase for a number of reasons:

The annual price rise

The minimum term on a contract ending so a discount is coming to an end and sometimes the increase can be split over two bills.

Neither of these seem to apply to you here so apart from the admin fee of £10 so are you saying that you are seeing an £8 increase, if so have you looked at this bill itself in greater detail, so does it cover a longer period than the usual 4 weeks as it might do if you have only just agreed this offer with Sky.

Sky uses OpenReach - many firms will sell you the exact same line.  The main difference will be the supplied router if that's important.

The contract does not allow for such frequent increases.  Indeed, when you read that contract you'll note the rights you have to cancel upon certain thresholds without penalty.  This is a customer forum - so call Sky if you want to discuss their pricing strategy.

Loyalty doesn't generally pay.  You are broadband firm's ideal customer - better rates are for those that switch.

New customer prices may be loss-leading which is why they are not maintained over the long term...

Re: CONSTANT PRICE INCREASES

I understand the bill splitting business.

I was paying £35.50 a month

They want me to pay £43.50...it's an increase of £8!

An unnacceptable increase.

@Anonymous

I don't think Sky would be keen on anyone on here recommending a rival ISP.

Alas quite normal.  But vote with your feet if you feel strongly about it.  There are many ISP's to choose from who will offer you a new customer rate as this is where the deals are.  (Note Black Friday)
