Advert says monthly charge £15; I pay £51 for basic

Advert in today's Sunday Times is offering new customers monthly charge of £15. We are paying £51 for basic contract! Have we been taken for granted?

£15 per month is typically Sky Essential TV (with no add-ons) delivered over the internet to a Stream puck.  That's a very different product to any previous satellite service and has significantly lower cost for Sky to provide because there's no dish installation, ongoing maintenance or satellite data transit fees involved, plus a drastically reduced channel lineup: essentially Sky Atlantic plus the free-to-air ones.

Sky Glass 55" (on ethernet) & two Stream Pucks (one ethernet / one WiFi)
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

No. I haven't seen the ad but almost certainly it shows the price for a new subscriber.

Better discounts are offered to new customers as an incentive for them to join. You probably benefited from one back in the day.

If you choose to jump ship and go with another provider then in 18/24 months you'll be in the same position and be able to return to Sky as a new customer.

That is a deal to attract new customers and is a limited package for streaming products only.

Are you 'out of contract'?

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

"Are you 'out of contract'?"

Thanks, yes, and looks like I may have been for 15 years. Don't believe I received any reminder then or ever since.

Sky don't send reminders. They tell you how long your contract is for when you agree one so that you can make a note of the expiry date and then seek a new deal.

Thanks. After an hour or so (including finding an approriate phone number, as I see this community does not/is not allowed to give such important info), that does indeed apear to be the status. I've switched to the apparent modern equivalent, SKY Signature, for a disappointingly small reduction.
