Because they all know that the vast majority of customers will simply accept the rises and renew their contract. Until that philosophy changes companies will continue to do it. Their intention is to make as much money as possible for their shareholders after all.

Some of these industries do reward loyalty, but customer loyalty doesn't necessary have to mean cheaper prices. Most companies nowdays have vaiour loyalty schemes which similar to Sky VIP or O2 priorities is rewarding ( or creating greater customer value) by providing offers such as discounts to other brands, or occassional free treats.

These such loyalty/reward schemes are much cheaper for these companies to run, which is likely to be the reason they exist, particularly if you consider that the cost of attracting new customers is so high that its not uncommon for new customer deals to be offered as a loss leader, or at a break even cost in some of these industries.

Re: How do we feel about the 1 April 2026 increase?

@MarkGoldsmith I used to be with o2 for many years and tyey had some great rewards such as free Nero coffee every week and free cinema tickets. They probably thought too generous then down graded them , to no cinema , no free coffee but you could get a greggs coffee once a month for £1. The price premium could not be justified so switched away from o2.

New customer acquisition is very expensive , hence they should reward loyalty especially as comparison sites and people like Martin Lewis encourage switching.

@oj01 you are right, some companies expect and rely on customers inertia to switching.

i think the concept of allowing price rises through the contract is wrong.
Fixed fee through the year or years much easier to compare.

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

@DIW i thought there was no penalties in switching once a mid contract price rise is announced?

Sky+, Sky Q, Broadband and Mobile customers can leave penalty free but not Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers.

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

I've now cancelled my Sky broadband but I had to appeal the early termination charge. They did eventually accept that I had followed the correct procedure and they waived the charge.

So I now have exactly the same service, FF150 for £22.99 pm from Plusnet with  £120 voucher and £56 Quidco cashback instead of £34 pm from Sky.

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

@DIW it is shame the broadband ( and other services ) do not value loyalty. There is probably a previous plusnet customer left them and is probably getting it for 22.99.
if you got it for 22.99 before taking into account the vouchers and cash back ( worth £7.33 a month assuming 24 month deal) , either way you got a good deal but shame you have to waste your time looking for it.

I was with plusnet and switched to sky and and very happy!

For broadband I always recommend switching at the end of each contract, for exactly this reason, you will be able to get new customer deals on another provider and usually bag yourself decent cashback and deals via comparison sites

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

My broadband was going up from £32 to £35 per month so looked at other deals

Decided to switch to Vodafone for same speeds but £25 per month, arranged to cancel Sky, then a week or so before before switching I was offered a new deal from Sky at £21 per month so staying with Sky

Great deal but slightly annoying that they couldn't offer anywhere near that price until I pulled the trigger to switch

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

@Mossley+Chris it is a shame that loyal customers have to waste time looking for deals . Wow you got it even better than your other offer.
What's your trick? Did you just say voda offered you £25 and then just went to £21? I would have thought they would have just matched the voda offer!

well done!

I had similar just this week but going from VM to Sky BB, VM managed to persuade me to stay but according to VM, when Sky cancelled my switch it also cancelled the new deal set up by VM (no idea how or why). Of course VM didn't bother to actually tell me this and it took me asking them what was happening to find out. Along with the usual "we can't offer you the same deal as 3 days ago" I've cancelled a 2nd time and gone back to Sky.

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

Believe it or not but they emailed me to offer at £25 with "no need to haggle", guaranteed price

Decided to stay as less hassle than switching, then when I called ans said the deal offered was £25 the agent said from her side she could knock it down to £21

Who was I to argue 😆

I would have taken the £25 deal

Re: 2026 Price Hikes

Don't blame you

I have in the last month cancelled VM TV & Broadband for my mum as the price had gone way over what she wanted to pay (she's in her 80's and only watches free channels anyway)

VM still wanted to charge her £57 per month for 132MB Broadband

When I questioned it being so high they said to call back in a month and they would give a better deal, by then the cooling off period would be over and she'd be stuck with VM with no guarantees of what the new monthly price would be

Told them no chance as didn't trust them to give a good deal, switched her to Vodafone for 150Mb at £23 with a £135 gift card
