The pay TV companies you mention have a potential customer base that is massively more than Sky's and are offset by a global retail empire(Amazon) and massive debt owed to investors(Netflix), Netflix are adding adverts soon aswell to try and put a halt to the losses, there is also the small factor pfhem carrying far less content.
Whether you acknowledge it or not the revenue gained through adverts does help lower the cost to subscribers.
See it's this, where on earth do get to speak to someone like this?

Again we have no clue who you're responding to, which makes your posts fairly pointless,
Either quote the post or mention the poster.

Funny how you sign off with "play nice with others, or don't play at all.. ", right after throwing out insults.... , Try taking your own advice.

Yep, daveNOS prefers to distract from the question by childish insults. Shows lack of maturity or is a Sky shill.
Despite the acknowledgement that advertising on a paid subscription is pure profiteering for a company that is already profitable.
It also makes programs unwatchable, for a paid service this is an unforgivable drop in quality.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@RayMcc I have made no childish insults or any insults at all, as for distracting from the question well at no point have I, I simply gave my personal opinion on why there are adverts, just because you don't agree with that doesn't mean I'm distracting or being a shill (oh look another insult aimed at me by someone claiming I throw insults out, the irony).
Sky like every other profit making business will seek to maximise those profits, it shouldn't be a surprise, I bet the company you work for does it as well but I guess your fine with that because it's financially beneficial to you.
If you believe Sky are taking the micky then leave, why remain a customer of a company you dislike so much?

Not sure how it makes programmes unwatchable. Back in the days of just BBC1 & 2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 we all watched programmes interrupted by adverts. I don't remember folks then commenting it was making their viewing unwatchable. I've no problem with advertising, in fact when playing back recordings it makes a natural break for a cuppa etc.

I know how the world works, thanks.
The point is 5 mins of adverts every 10 mins is abysmal.
Try commenting on that, instead of wandering all over the place trying to patronize me.

Ofcom rules wouldn't allow anywhere near that.

I believe OFCOM rules only apply to broadcast channels.

The spam filter eat my post but I think the code only applies to broadcast channels.
