Landline issues. Can’t receive or make calls

My landline is not making or receiving call. The line rings but disconnects when I answer & it then trips my broadband connection

@HelloItsKaren  Is your broadband connected to a splitter that is connected to the phone socket or do the cables for the broadband and phone plug into separate ports in the socket on the wall or is the phone plugged into the back of the router?

They are both plugged into a splitter that then plugs into the phone socket

@HelloItsKaren  How old is the splitter that you are using?

@HelloItsKaren the fault you're seeing can be caused by a faulty splitter, hence @Highlinder's question. You might wish to replace it anyway as a first step. You can buy them cheaply online or at a local hardware store (and possibly your supermarket).

It's quite a few years old.
I will try a new splitter & see if that fixes the issue. Thank you
