Need is the wrong word unless your Sky box is over 100m from your router
You could use a long piece of ethernet to connect to the router, we use 30m of ethenet to connect our box 🙂

Just to check - has your Sky box ever been connected by wifi?

Mark, , the box was connected by ethernet cable. When the box ànd router were together. But new router from Sky is put into different room. Any help or advise would be appreciated. Thanks Bill

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThanks for confirming. If the box has no WPS button on the front panel, it has no on board wifi capability. You would need a separate Sky Wireless Connector or On Demand Connector. They've long since stopped being produced, I'm afraid but you might find a used one on ebay etc.
See Sky's help here to determine which type of connector is suitable for your box: https://www.sky.com/help/home/sky-tv/sky-tv-plus/sky-plus-watching-sky-tv/on-demand-and-box-sets/art...

Thank you. Not sure what it is. Any advice would be helpful. Bill

Powerline networking uses a pair of adaptors with standard three pin electricity plugs to pass ethernet traffic over in-wall domestic mains cabling.

Although this may be too late to be of use, you may wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q
