SKY HDR HLG & Samsung

Can I assume the HDR/HLG problems on Samsung TVs were never rectified?

Watched The Dark Knight last night and the big swathes of purple on dark scenes were heavily present - I remember this plagued House of the Dragon S1 last year, and SKY claimed to be seeking a solution with Samsung re this artefact on the HLG picture.

I assume nothing was in fact dome then?

There is no issue with Samsung tv's as you've described, the issue is with Sky's poor implementation of certain HLG content. This can be proven by watching a HDR program on the Sky's iplayer then watching the same on the tv's own iplayer app. The differences are like night and day.

I watched F1 this weekend on my Samsung Q90R and all the HDR content was fine.

House of Dragons was slated for it's terrible PQ and this was down to HBO 'directors intent':

I agree with what @cuke says - I have a Samsung TV in my spare room which used to be connected to Sky Q until we upgraded to an OLED. HLG HDR from Sky Q just never looked great. The TV's own UHD iPlayer output was (and still is) quite stunning. 

With Sky, it's a combination of aggressive compression and poor implementation of HLG. Sky have been known to do their own HDR conversions from a Dolby Vision or HDR10 master to their preferred HLG format. They don't tend to spend a lot of time doing them, nor do they go through a full QC before delivery.

I cancelled Sky Movies after a while as it just wasn't worth the expense for us, particularly when the quality you can get from other sources is so much better.

I'm afraid it has already been well established that there IS a problemn with Samsung TVs in this regard - the purple banding is also evident on BBC HLG although not as egregiously.

It czan vary according to the source, and SKY does itself no favours with its shoddy approach to encoding for HLG - HOTD was woeful - but its a Samsun g problem too.

And clearly unrectified.

Sorry but it hasn't,  all I can state is my Q90R doesn't replicate what you are stating, yes I get some of what you are describing with certain Sky channels content but with many others, such as F1 HDR, I don't. This clearly points to Sky's feed being the issue.

I think the now totally discredited HOD proves this as it is from HBO. This company is very unhappy about their current contract with Sky, made by a predecessor.

Well, S2 of HOTD has EXACTLY the same HDR issues on Samsung - purple banding on the blacks.

Yes I just swapped from an LG CX to an S90d and HLG on Sky F1 is awful. Unwatchable. I have to use regular HD instead.

Yet it looked wonderful on the CX, both via Sky Q and Sky Stream.

 Some people say  it's a Sky problem, but my LG was fine, so someone more technical would have to explain that and how it's a Sky issue.
