This is a recurring problem... none of our other apps have a problem

Not helpful but having searched GOOGLE I found that this is a regular problem. Being rather technical my conclusion was that the cause probably was an IP problem between my router and the Q box.  I then orchestrated a hard reset for the Q box and all seems to be working properly.

comment though: the process is slow and painful when you use complex passcodes - Sky should offer a simple one click reset from an existing user and a mixture of QR codes and codes by SMS. Poor service in my opinion.
