Router keeps dropping connection to Internet.

Hi, all,

Around a week ago, my router kept losing connection to the internet (approx every 1 - 2 minutes).  Sky checked the line and said the problem appeared to be with either the line outside or with my Master Socket.  They sent out an Openreach engineer, who gave me a new Master Socket (prefiltered, so don't need microfilters anymore).  Ever since then, our cordless phone hisses when used and the internet connection drops out while phone in use, then reconnects when phone hung up again.  I know that cordless phones and routers wifi signals can cause interference if too close together, but we can't move the phone back to the old Master Socket in another room, where it used to be, as the Openreach engineer said that that old Master Socket now won't work (I assume he disconnected it, when he put the new prefiltered one in the Living Room.

Anyway, I could live with the problem if it only happened when the phone was in use, but the internet connection still drops, although a lot less than it used to.

I've posted my Router Stats below, so if anyone could enlighten me as to what's happening, that would be great.

The Openreach guy did say that Sky would do some tests after he'd gone, so connection would drop then, but he was here last Wednesday (6 days ago), so would they still be running tests on the line now? 

The problem is much better today, but still some drops in connection. 

The router is 10 years old.

No addresses were visable and i could see them as a superuser with amongst other privileges moderate images . Any ways as they hadn't been attached to any post they won't appear any where in the public facing forums

 

As to the reason for the slow speed likely due to a fault closer to the exchange than your green roadside cabinet as the superfast speeds from the cabinet are as fast as is possible. However you are potentially going from sky essentials to superfast or ultrafast via fttp the green cabinet will be bypassed

I've got the table and notes from the BT Broadband Checker, but how do I copy it to post it here.  It won't allow me to right click on the page and when I save it, it just saves the link to the blank form again.

Notice the wbc fttp full fibre

 

You are with in a fttp area and as such can request 40, 80, 100,150, 500 Mbps or 1Gbps .  Its a no brainer.  With the performance of your at the minute you would have in excess of 10× a more stable line

Hi,

Thanks for answers, which crossed with mine (too busy trying to work out how to send images of BT Broadband Checker).

With regard to upgrading - Sky have told us that they will have to dig up our front garden to connect us to fibre and as it is a paved area, not soil, we don't fancy it.

So, are these internet connection drop outs just due to the fact that the speed is slow, or is there something else going on?

Your existing line carries no guarantee so sky are unlikely to repair and even if they did they may have to dig it up anyway depending where the fault is.

 

The checker shows a 1 stage install via an existing duct so they don't anticipate any issues

Just as a matter of interest, can you tell what is actually causing the internet connection dropouts, as it's only started happening recently.  Could you tell from the router stats in my first post what keeps causing the ADSL and PPP links to go down?

 

Just as another  matter of interest, 😁 after I finally managed to post the table and notes from BT Broadband Checker, you replied at 4.45pm and said you'd already seen the earlier images.  How could you have seen them, as I hadn't posted them then?  (Did they still have my address details on them then, before I cropped the images to post them)?😮

One more question, please - when the old copper wire network is  retired at end of 2025, will everyone then have to go fibre for broadband and digital phone line?
