@Mr+Ripley As I already have glasses to correct my vision, 3-D glasses are a pain as are VR headsets, most of these devices expect their user to have either good eyesight or contact lenses 😞

In almost every article about the fall of 3-D TV, the blame was laid on the 3-D glasses we had to wear. I have never understood why this was. I never had an issue with them; I was quite happy to put them on. It's not like we were asked to wear a helmet or a large headset. Oh yeah, a large headset, something like a VR headset that nobody was complaining about. People were quite happy to strap one of those on, but not a pair of lightweight glasses. Makes no sense.

I loved my 3-D TV, which I had before 4K TV was a thing. I can still remember my reaction when I put it on & loaded a 3-D Blu-ray film onto it, & I wasn't new to 3-D films by any means, having seen plenty over the years at the cinema. It was a great experience & I still miss it. I had quite a good collection of 3-D content, not only films but specialist documentaries as well.

I'm sure there used to be talk of being able to watch 3-D content on a TV without the need for 3-D glasses, but that never came to anything.

Did any of you hate the 3-D glasses? If so, why?

Although not perfect by any means I had no problem with the 3D glasses  (over my ordinary glasses) - apart from the  fact that I had Panasonic TVs that needed active glases and they would soon go through the button batteries but fortunately I also got some rechargeable ones 🙂

That said, part of me wonders if that was partly I was prepared to put up with them to be able to watch the 3D content

Re: Where is the 3D content gone?

My old 3D TV was the passive version where you could just use the glasses you got at the cinema. They were far more comfortable to wear than the ones that came with the TV.

I far enjoyed the experience of watching 3D on a TV at home than at the cinema. I was sad when my TV broke down because manufacturing of the TV's had stopped by then. I've resold almost all the 3D Blu-ray's I had. The 3D Blu-ray player I got at the same time as the TV is still going strong!

I figured someone would reply about how 3-D glasses were awkward to wear if you already wore regular glasses ( I'm not having a go at you here @Annie+UK ), but then @nigea99 states that he managed okay. So it can be done.

Here is what AI Overview has to say on the subject: Yes, it is generally possible to wear 3D glasses over regular glasses, and most movie theaters provide 3D glasses that are designed to fit over prescription glasses. While it can sometimes be slightly uncomfortable, it's a common practice and typically not a terrible experience.

@Mr+Ripley Why should one have to put up with "slightly uncomfortable", when I pay for something I don't want to compromise my comfort, for me 3-D was a gimmick to allow hardware manufacturers to charge more for their TVs etc... or cinema to increase their ticket prices

Re: Where is the 3D content gone?

@Annie+UK  I guess it all depends on how much someone is willing to put up with something in order to enjoy it. For you, it didn't work, and that's a pity.

I agree that 3-D was a gimmick ( and yes, prices were inflated ), but for me & many others, it was an enjoyable gimmick that enhanced our viewing of many films.

Re: Where is the 3D content gone?

When I had a 3D TV, to get around the glasses over glasses issue, I took the lenses out of an old pair of spectacles and glued them to the inside of my 3D glasses.

It did mean that no one else could wear them (unless they had a similar prescription to me), but otherwise worked perfectly.

Sky 3d films/content.

Hi.. my little boys saw a 3d film at the cinema recently and loved it so I said we could watch a 3d film on sky as we have a 3d capable tv with glasses....  but that's where it all went wrong..

I turned on the sky tv to find the 3d channel had gone a few years ago but google said it was under sky cinema /genres.. but no, there wasn't even a submenu for genres anymore, you have to spoil through the thumbnails of movies . So I rang customer services to find out where the genres submenu had gone, and then where would I find 3d content..

45mins on a call to be told different things.. yes we have films...  ah no we do but only on sky cinema.. (search showed no films).. and no we don't due to licensing issues.. ah we do but only a few.. but none came up on a search, so do you stream 3d content or not?.. we don't know, can we call you back within 24hrs? We've escalated your case as to why you can't see any 3d content.
so my question is, can any Sky user see any 3d content at all and if so how did you find it please? My kids just want to try the 3d glasses at home and I'd love to know if they could test it through sky? I know I'm in the minority here but as I have tv that can do it, I'd just like to try it.,
many thanks.

Unfortunately @timosb  3d films are just hard to find.

It was discussed here https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/What-s-On/Where-is-the-3D-content-gone/m-p/4859208#M157050

Hi @timosb  you might just be in luck

Voice search for 3D films retuned one film

Monster Family - look under Other Formats which currently does show 3d

@timosb I am now confused as I just tried again & it did not list it (just listed SKY Store) - I then looked under SKY Cinema & found the film in the A-Z listing (after a lot of scrolling) but this time I am sorry to Say it did not list 3D under other formats

Hopefully it might for you but note - when I used to watch 3D on SKY we did need a free 3D add on so even if you find it, there is a possibility it won't let you watch it

EDIT : Just tried the voice search again - this time 3D Film (not films) & it retruned the listing I first found, with3D listed under other formats (I am now very confused) - I hope you can find it and also download& watch

Re: Where is the 3D content gone?

One solitary film Monster Family in 3d

So poor, many of us have still got 3d tvs & projectors.

It is very disappointing that Sky has been so anti 3d.

And a add on of £0 for 3d content as if they are doing us customers a favour.

I don't think the 4k content is much better than hd in my opinion.

The industry, other than Cameron, pretty much gave up on it didn't it? I'm not sure Sky really led the charge out of the door.

Projectors, perhaps, but given manufacturing ceased in 2017 all remaining 3D televisions are now getting rather long in the tooth.

The most viable option for the very small percentage of dedicated users is a 3D-capable optical disk player and appropriate physical media.
