There is a little gem hidden away in the Paramount Plus vaults. It's called The Offer. It's about the making of the Godfather. Now don't get me wrong. The first time I've seen the name I've balked, but then I ran out of documentaries to watch and I took a look at it a bit closer. It's not a documentary series, it's actually a dramatisation. And I thought why not? I've always loved The Godfather, and I love how behind the scenes work. Couple that with a fantastic cast, this 10 parter is a brilliant watch. Sure it's drama, based on reality but the story was fascinating. The casting was perfect, I honestly thought I was looking at a young Coppola, Pacino, Brando. I urge everyone to watch it. I like the fact that Yellowstone and it's prequel 1883 is already on the list, and I have watched them, but this show sold me to Paramount +, so I raise this glass to them, here's hoping the other shows I've added to my watchlist are the same quality.
PS I hope I don't get a horse's head in my bed tonight 🙂

@Austinored To be honest, I wasn't that impressed with the line-up on P+ but I did notice The Offer & was interested in seeing it. Didn't really fancy paying yet another sub though, especially for only one show. Luckily I bought some " Gary Lineker" crisps ( I've already mentioned the make in a different thread, not sure how many times I'm allowed to advertise on here ) & they have an offer ( see what I did there? ) for a month's free trial, so I may well use that & watch it. It sure does have a good cast & I always like watching Giovanni Ribisi. And don't worry, you didn't show any disrespect, you should be safe tonight. 🐴

@merv60 gotta love your pun on the special crisps make as well as the offer. What I like about the show that it's based on a true story, so it's slightly tongue in cheek. That's fine with me as I always read up on the facts afterwards. I do like Giovanni Ribisi who had his role nailed on, but 2 Brits impersonating real people were great, Matthew Goode as Bob Evans (he has a good documentary on Sky called The Kid Stays in the Picture) and Burn Gorman who plays the Austrian head of Gulf and Western. Juno Temple surpasses herself too. I'm now looking forward to watching The Godfather again on Sky, now that I know some of the stuff that happened.

@Austinored Did you know there is a new version of The Godfather pt3 called The Godfather Coda - The Death of Michael Corleone? Coppola himself made a recut version in 2020 with changes to the beginning and the end and it runs 4 minutes shorter.

@merv60 no I didn't, what platform is that on?

@Austinored I bought it on Apple TV+ as part of a bundle with newly restored versions of parts 1 & 2, but I think you can buy it on its own too. Maybe worth checking other platforms, also Amazon has it on DVD & Blu-ray.

I'm glad he didn't bow to received wisdom and reduce the on-screen time of his own daughter in the re-cut: I've always thought Sofia was somewhat better than people rather hastily judged at the time, and frankly it's now difficult to imagine Winona Ryder in that role, as was meant to be.

At least she went on to become a successful & accomplished director. I've seen 6 of the 7 feature films she's made, all of them very good indeed. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Ah thanks for that @merv60 I've just seen it on Prime, so I will rent it, but first I will watch the 2nd one on Sky possibly tonight whilst everything is fresh in my head.

I've seen 2 of her films, Marie Antoinette was excellent, Lost in Translation was somewhat weird.

@Austinored I loved Lost in translation, but The Virgin Suicides is still her best film IMHO.

Apart from the fact she makes great films, I like that she keeps using Kirsten Dunst, who is one of my favourite actresses ( The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, & The Beguiled ), & The Beguiled itself is comprised of my three favourite actresses, the aforementioned Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman & Elle Fanning.

I've watched it last night, much better than the original version, it brought down the Corleone saga perfectly. Great trilogy overall. As for Sofia, she did well. It was nice to see all the original actors come back to their roles.
