Yes I did set up my Discovery+ free account through Sky and no I cannot view any free content via Sky. I can only access it online via laptop or desktop. I went through my SkyQ box which then gave me a QR code to scan so I actually had to finish setting up on my phone. I was given a 6 digit code to input in order to link the two. Still it failed.

I tried again about an hour ago, went to My Sky, Your Products, App Subscriptions and Activate (I did all this yesterday too) I scanned the qr code to go to sky.com on my phone , it was different this time. Initially it said 'Something Went Wrong'. I refreshed the page and it said Activating Account Offer or something like that, had to do a Captcha test then it said All Done  (this did not happen yesterday). Checked Discovery Plus via Sky Q and can watch content now, including a re-run of the match lol. Maybe the Sky sign-up thing was overloaded or was limiting sign-ups yesterday, I dunno. Now when I check App Subscriptions on Sky Q it no longer says Activate beside it, it says £0.00 While You Have A Sky TV subscription.

This morning I received a text from Sky with an application link. This is the first time I've had it, and bear in mind this is 2 days after I tried to set it up. I followed it, linked the discovery account I set up on the night of the match, and hey presto - it now works. So the lesson here is really simple - @Laing1 and other sky superusers take note. Sky needs to manage the expectations of its customers. If Sky had said 'it may take 24hrs or more to activate your Discovery÷ account with Sky', we would have understood. Sky didn't want to say that because it looks inefficient. Guess what...in the end they looked inefficient. And to anyone who says, still, that this is not a Sky issue, then why does an activation link sent by Sky to me today work when all previous attempts to watch through my sky box failed? Like everyone else, I could watch on my phone, just not through my Sky box. So Sky, manage your customers expectations. As for.superusers, I repeat, please be helpful - saying it works for you is simply insulting. If someone says there is a problem, there is a problem for them, so please listen and help or don't get involved. All we has to do was wait 2 days - which obviously meant we had to apply two days before the match. So tell us that, the truth helps us to understand and accept even if we don't like it. What we dislike even more is being told we're not doing something right or its someone else's fault.

Or being taught it's our own fault for being so dumb... durrrh, what you don't even know how Sky TV works?! That's how it comes across sometimes.

@NigelNigelNigel I'm not saying whether is was or wasn't a Sky issue, the fact is non of us on this forum will know, but ultimately this doesn't prove where the issue was. The linking between a Sky account and a Discovery + account requiredsa number of "messages" to be passed between the Sky and Discovery + systems, so in fact the issue could have been on the Sky side, could have been on the Discovery + side or could have been caused somewhere in the middle, ultimately we will never know. 

 

What is quite well known on this forum is that issues with the Discovery + app are quite common (and more prevalent than any other app available on Sky's platform), whether its registration/activation based issues, or the app not working as it should. All of these issues typically require Discovery + and Sky to work together to resolve and it seems likely this relationship is far from ideal, with it being the main reason that these issues take a while to fix.

 

Ultimately both Sky and Discovery + need to take responsbility for all these various reported issues and need to find a way to work together better to fix them in a more timely manner and improve the user experience.

And keeping in mind that it's 'free'?

 

As I've remarked in other posts, the apparent ongoing disarray within WBD and associated confusion over their proliferation of app offerings alongside legacy broadcast distribution is really quite surprising.
