Moving from sky fttc to fttp - porting number

Hi,

I'm currently on Sky FTTC 76mb and I'm looking at upgrading to FTTP. Looking at the forums, it looks like sky are unable to port the number over from FTTC to FTTP which doesn't work for me as I've had the number for 40+ years and it is my main contact number for doctors etc. Therefore if I migrated over, I would get a new phone number.

Does anyone have instructions on how I can port the number over to FTTP? Would I need to move to BT for two years and then come back to Sky? It all really sounds ridiculous that sky can't do inter company porting and that I'd need to move elsewhere to keep my landline number.
