Do I need a landline with fibre broadband

I have sky fibre gigafast broadband do I have to have the landline or could I cancel that?

By default you get a landline service with broadband.

 

However, if you don't make any calls, and aren't paying monthly for a call package, it doesn't cost you anything.

Delivery of the broadband service requires rental of the optical data bearer circuit, and this is included in the monthly billing from the ISP: 'landline' is a somewhat obsolete concept in such circumstances.

 

As @Mark39 indicates, the default 'Sky Talk Internet Calls' 'Pay As You Talk' doesn't have an additional monthly cost if no outbound calls are made: it also cannot be removed from the subscription bundle.

 

Online advice to 'save money by cancelling an unused landline' is typically erroneous.
