I am new to sky, and can't activate my phone, it just has a message on it 'check phone line '

It's normal for the Sky Talk landline to not operate fully for 24+ hours after the broadband activation. Presumably you've got it plugged into the back of the hub and NOT a wall socket?

@chris697 when was your Sky service activated? did you switch to Sky from BT? BT's Digital Voice handsets won't work with Sky.
