Viewing card not working

My sky + viewing card is not working.. I can only receive basic channels

@Dave196611 Have you, at some point in the past, ordered and cancelled Sky Q?

Yeah, I did over 12 months ago. When the engineer came out he decided it couldn't be connected so was cancelled. 
the viewing card is the original one so petty old now.

That could be the reason, although 12 months seems a long time.

Basically when Sky Q is ordered your Sky+ card is set to deactivate at a point in the future. Annoyingly, if the Sky Q install is cancelled, the deactivation can still go ahead. If that's what's happened, you would need to contact Sky to get a new card. You absolutely don't need to switch away from Sky+ even though the agent will try to convince you to.
