Sky plus stopped working

Was watching lingo this afternoon when sky + stopped working it started re-booting from scratch then after a few seconds screen flashed and it just went blank. I have unplugged it for an hour tried again it started up saying sky + initiating then did the same again.

That doesn't sound good. Try updating the firmware: switch off at the plug for 4 minutes. Then press and hold the Backup button on top of the box while turning on again - keep the Backup button pressed until the lights on the front panel flash. Then release the button and follow the instructions on screen.

Sounds like you'll need to purchase a second-hand replacement or move to Sky Q/Glass

Great - how do I go about that since everything's done by keyboard nowadays and u can't seem to find a human to actually speak to

Give it a few tries - it doesn't always work first time, but increasingly it looks as the box has had it, I'm afraid.
