Can I pay a sky subscription and receive the channels over a Smart (streaming) TV or do I need Sky's specialist streaming box?

You would need a Sky set top box (or a Sky Glass TV with Sky built in).

You can access Sky subscription channels on Smart TVs using the NOWTV app ... but only Sky subscription channels and a few other subscription channels😉
