I've been paying for Sky every month but it hasn't been working for over a year

How is it not working?

 

I can understand how anyone could leave a service not working for longer than a day without contacting the provider for a fix

What have Sky said and done in the last 12 months when you've reported it? How isn't it not working?

Remember Sky+ (where you've posted) is no longer supported by Sky and they won't send an engineer
