Sky+ box not responding to remote control

We were given a reconditioned Sky+ box when we didn't get on with Sky Q.

The receiver for the remote has never worked efficiently but now it's worse.

We have to hang the box over the shelf to be able to change channel.

We have 3 remote controls and they're all working fine. Changed batteries too, just to make sure.

Can this be sorted, or do we need a replacement?
