@Tockolosh21 switch both Sky box and tv off at the plug.

Disconnect the HDMI cable from both, and either replace it with another cable if you have one, or if not, swap the ends over so that the end that was plugged into your tv is now plugged into your Sky box.

Give it for minutes, then switch both your tv and Sky box back on, and check if the problem has gone.

Did that and sadly the problem hasn't disappeared. Is there obsolescence built into the SKY +HD box? It wants me to upgrade

In the sense that all electronics degrade over time, yes

@Tockolosh21 and bear in mind that even the most recent Sky+HD box is at least 10 years old.

Sky+ HD manufacturing ceased in 2015 to make way for Sky Q, which itself stopped production several years ago in favour of Glass & Stream (released in 2021)

It's extremely unlikely you'd still be using, for example, a computer, phone or tablet of that vintage.

Regarding an 'upgrade', both Sky+ and Sky Q are products from before Sky Group became an overseas division of the Comcast Corporation after they won a bidding war against Fox and Disney in late 2018
