Sky+HD Box Won't Connect the New EE Full Fibre Router

Hello all,

Can anyone help? I'm despairing! We used to connect our Sky+HD box to Sky copper broadband with no problem. We got full fibre broadband with EE and now even though the Sky box sees the router and allows us to put in the password, it then just fails to connect.

After putting in the password the error message reads: 'There has been a problem connecting to the network setting. Please check and try again.'

We've tried various things so far: resets; unplugging everything; using the wsc switch on router and sky hub and nothing has worked. The little sky box thing next to the sky+ HD box shows 'steady amber' alongside a white light. It flashes for a while after each reset and then shows steady amber.

Currently we've attached a really long ethernet cable to the sky box and the hub - in another room., but it's asking for a manual configuration. It wants:

The Sky IP Address of this box

Subway

Gateway router

DNS

I've put in:

the IP address of the wifi

the subway mask number

the router number

and  the configure DNS number.

However, when I then press the green button, it depresses on screen - so it sees it -  but still won't connect.

One other thing: On the information I have -  the number is written like this 000.000.0.000

But on the TV screen in the grid it shows the numbers as 000.000.000.0

Basically, the last dot moves leaving a single digit at the end, instead of just before the last three digits.

I cannot alter this on the screen using the remote control.

So my two questions are: can I connect my new full fibre to the sky box and somehow get it to accept the password? (It sees the broadband but won't take the password.)

Or can I get it to accept the ethernet numbers... and am I putting in the right numbers?

Sorry for the long post! Hope someone can help with this.

I can't get a Sky Q box until I've watched the many recordings on the Sky+HD - so that's not an option right now.

And we're still paying loads of money for all this.

Thank you.

@NORPH97

One distinct possibility is that the now rather antique Sky+ operating system cannot cope with WPA3 encryption, if that's what the EE router is broadcasting.

I'd suggest reducing the wireless security level to WPA2-PSK and then trying the WiFi setup again.

Try 1.1.1.1 as your DNS

Gateway route is most likely: 192.168.1.254 (if it is like BTs)

Mask is:255.255.255.0

IP Address is any address your router is not already using ie: 192.168.1.100 (the bold number can be any number between 1 and 253)

Re: Sky+HD Box Won't Connect the New EE Full Fibre Router

@TimmyBGood,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Not quite sure what happened but overnight the ethernet cable  started working despite not allowing the numbers to go in correctly.

I think I will ring EE about what you said and go from there because over wifi would be best.  I'm not too keen on reducing protections, plus we don't know how to do it! But we'll see what they say.

Thank you again!

Re: Sky+HD Box Won't Connect the New EE Full Fibre Router

@Annie+UK  - thanks very much for that. Much appreciated.

I've taken a photo of your answer in case it happens again. The weird thing is that overnight and all of a sudden the broadband connected via the ethernet, despite it not doing anything yesterday except for depressing the green button on screen.

We're still on a mission to connect the EE hub via wifi, so next stop is to call EE.

Best wishes,
