Netflix Household on Sky

Netflix Household

Netflix are introducing some changes to stop account holders sharing their account with people outside of their household. A Netflix account is meant to be shared by people living together in one household.

What's happening?

  • You’ll only be able to share your Netflix account in one household (location/address).

  • To share your Netflix account with people outside of your household, you’ll need to add them as extra members for an extra monthly charge. Extra Members isn’t available through Sky. For more information, go to Netflix.com/sharing.

  • You’ll still be able to watch on laptops, mobiles or tablets outside your household, as long as you’ve used the device within your Netflix household in the last 30 days.

Definitions and Key Terms

  • Owner / Sharer: The registered account holder of the Netflix account. The owner sets their ‘Netflix Household’ to their Netflix account.

  • Borrower: Anyone who is streaming on a Netflix account but does not live with the account owner. Anyone that Netflix deems to be a borrower will be blocked.

  • Extra Member: Anyone who is streaming on a Netflix account but does not live with the account owner. Account owners can buy an extra member slot and invite people outside their household to use Netflix. An extra member will have their own profile, account and password, but their membership will be paid for by the person who invited them to join.

What is a Netflix Household?

A Netflix Household is a collection of the devices connected to the internet at the main place you watch Netflix. A Netflix Household can be set using a TV device. All other devices that use your Netflix account on the same internet connection as this TV will automatically be part of your Netflix Household.

How does Netflix detect whether a device is within a Netflix Household?

Netflix uses information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine whether a device signed into your account is part of your Netflix Household.

How do I set my Netflix Household?

For information on how to set or update your Netflix Household, please visit https://help.netflix.com/node/128339. If customers don’t set a Netflix Household, Netflix will do this automatically; this can be updated by customers at any time.

Netflix is easy to use when on the go or traveling. Use Netflix as usual to watch on your portable devices - like a tablet, laptop, or mobile phone - or sign into a new TV, like at a hotel or a holiday rental.
