As 2023 gets underway, and we leave the January blues behind, we look ahead to February, which marks LGBT+ History Month – a time to discover, understand and reflect upon queer history. This year’s theme is especially relevant to us at Sky, as #BehindTheLens celebrates LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to cinema and film from behind the lens: from directors and cinematographers to screenwriters, producers, animators, costume designers and more.
The hit new series The Last of Us aired a special, LGBT-focussed episode this week – just in time for LGBT+ History Month. Some of our Network Members were lucky enough to attend a preview of the episode last week. Check out our episode recap here!
“I was not expecting the episode to be so moving,” Paul Toomey, LGBTQ+ At Sky Co-Chair said. “The episode took the story into an extremely unexpected direction. I laughed and cried. It was one of the most moving shows I've seen in years.”
Network Champion Patrick Braithwaite continued: “This was a truly heart-warming and beautiful depiction of a queer relationship and I found it very emotional, I was moved to tears as were my colleagues watching it. The story it told was tender and loving and very tastefully handled.” C
In an exclusive interview with Chelsea's Pernille Harder and Magda Eriksson, Cesar Azpilicueta speaks to The HangOut - a collaboration between Sky Sports and Ten Toes Media - about LGBTQ+ inclusion at the Blues. Cesar Azpilicueta discusses safe environments for LGBTQ+ players; Azpilicueta: "I have gay friends and I would try to help in a way that feels comfortable... the most important thing for me is to try to create a safe environment."
